Cleverly called Holey Light, the app animates the edges of the camera punch-hole whenever you get a notification. It’s a clever use of that area, which actually lights up a chrome color when you open the stock camera app.

Android 4.2.2 has begun to roll out to the LG G2 in Korea, this according to an anonymous tipster over at Phone Arena. The update was originally expected by the end of January in Korea, but rolling out almost a week late should not set LG back too far in rolling out this update to G2 phones around the globe by the end of the first quarter.

Google announced last week that it would be depreciating the data-saving Lite Mode in the Chrome browser for Android late this month. The move comes after Lite Mode was first introduced back in 2014, compressing incoming web content to speed up loading and save data.

The update carries the build number 23.5.A.0.570 and upgrades the tablet straight to Android 6.0.1. I’m sure you’re all aware about what is included with Marshmallow by now, including Doze and new configurable app permissions, and Sony’s tweaks on top remain mostly minimalist.

The update is live for the LTE (SGP621, SGP641) and Wi-Fi (SGP611, SGP612) variants of the Sony’s tablet. If you haven’t spotted that update notification just yet, downloadable firmware links are sure to be making their way online as we speak.
It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus will get a small design tweak after all. Previously leaked renders of the true wireless earbuds missed out on a tiny detail. New renders, however, show the addition of what look like Left (L) and Right (R) buttons on the charging case.
Pressing these buttons could indicate the charging status of individual earbuds. This way, when you wear one earbud and leave the other in the charging case, you’ll know exactly when it’s usable again.

Three years of Android OS updates, five years of security updates: that’s Google’s update pledge for the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Starting from Android 12, Google’s latest flagships will receive Android 15 in 2024, followed by security patches until 2026.
Technically, this is the best you can find from an Android smartphone at the moment. It beats Samsung’s promise of three OS updates and four years of security updates for its Galaxy S21 and older handsets, but not by very much.
There are plenty of great launchers out there, delivering everything from extra features to improved performance. We can now add another option to the list, in the form of the Android Go-optimized Rootless Pixel Launcher by AmirZ.
The launcher, spotted by XDA-Developers, differs from the standard Rootless Pixel Launcher by using less RAM, always featuring a 4×4 app grid, disabling widgets, and turning off notification dots.
The 4×4 app grid delivers some huge icons on my Galaxy S8, but those with budget phones or older devices in general should still give it a shot if they want to claw back some performance.
