Pixel 3 XL speakers reportedly exhibit sound imbalance and distortion

Update, November 15, 2018 (01:27 PM EST): The Google Pixel 3 speaker volume problem detailed below has probably been pretty annoying for many Pixel users over the past month. However, the imbalance of sound likely hasn’t been nearly as annoying as the distortion that occurs when you play something at a low volume. Fortunately, the distorted speaker issue is getting a fix from Google soon. This information comes from a tweeted conversation with a Google support rep.

Xposed Framework gets official support for Android Nougat

Xposed Framework‘s lead developer, rovo89, said back in January that development on the tool was in progress but that it could take hundreds of hours more to complete. After committing to it in his spare time, and receiving a bit of help along the way, the new version has now been released. The news arrives via XDA Developers, which noted that both Xposed Framework and the Xposed Installer have been upgraded with support for Android 7.

Duet Display for Android lets you turn an old device into a second screen

You simply cannot have too much screen real estate, that’s a fact. Coming to Android today, Duet Display promises to let you turn that old Android tablet you have lying around into a second screen for your PC or Mac. Duet has been quite successful on iOS, and over the past months the team behind it worked to make the jump to Android. The app lets your devices act as secondary displays for your laptop or desktop.

NexDock 2 is another bid to make laptop shells a success

There have been several attempts to make lapdocks and laptop shells over the years, with varying degrees of success. Now, the team behind 2016’s NexDock is back with a sequel on Kickstarter, dubbed the NexDock 2 (h/t: SlashGear). Much like other laptop shells, the NexDock 2 offers a display, keyboard, trackpad, battery, and several ports. But it improves upon the original design by offering a full HD IPS display, a full-sized HDMI port, a USB port, and several USB-C ports (including one for charging).

Archos 80 Cobalt tablet with 8-inch display and Android ICS announced

Archos has come forward with an announcement for the third tablet in their Elements lineup. This newly introduced model is the Archos 80 Cobalt, which follows the 97 Carbon and the 97 Xenon. The Archos 80 Cobalt, as the name would imply, is an 8-inch device. That said, while Archos has announced the 80 Cobalt and offered a complete set of details in terms of specs, they have yet to say anything in terms of availability or the price.

Google Home or Mini bricked? You're not alone. (Update: Replacements)

Update, October 24, 2019 (02:10 PM ET): Originally, we deduced that any Google Home or Google Home Mini smart speakers bricked by the recent update described below would not be replaced by Google. However, it appears that was incorrect. According to 9to5Google, the company reached out to explain that anyone with a bricked smart speaker due to the firmware update can get a replacement, even if the device is out-of-warranty. Here’s Google’s statement:

May 2022 Android security patch here for Pixels

OnePlus 7 Pro Almond hits US and Canada today, UK later this month

OnePlus today made the Almond version of the OnePlus 7 Pro available to consumers in the U.S. and Canada. The Chinese brand also confirmed the colorway will launch in the U.K. on June 25, just behind the already announced June 14 release date in India  The Almond version of the OnePlus 7 Pro is a limited edition. OnePlus says the phone’s finish was devised thanks to a layer of film beneath the glass.
