The $4 smartphone is supposedly shipping from June 30

This is the final appearance of the Freedom 251. Credit: IANS We’re still not convinced it’s not an elaborate scam, but the Freedom 251 – known globally as the “$4 smartphone” – will begin shipping to customers soon. At least that’s what the CEO of the company that sells the device is promising. When Ringing Bells, an obscure company based in Noida, announced it would sell a real smartphone for just Rs.

Apple iPad mini vs Google Nexus 7

The iPad mini (left) has thin bezels, for a tablet. Though Steve Jobs is famously known to have disliked the idea of 7-inch tablets, you can’t deny that there is a market for them. A 7-incher, such as the Google Nexus 7 (made by ASUS), is a whole lot more portable than larger 10-inch tablets and provides the same ebook reading and multimedia consumption experience as larger tablets do. It can easily fit in your hand, in your jacket pocket, and in your bag without your looking awkward in public.

LG G8 ThinQ camera review: average all around

LG LG G8 ThinQThe LG G8 ThinQ camera is pretty good, but nothing makes it special when compared to its competitors. The LG G8 ThinQ is geared to compete against the best flagships in the market, but in our full review we found it doesn’t do much to really stand out from the crowd. Can we expect the same from its camera? We know many of you don’t mind a phone being short of amazing so long as the camera can keep up.

The Witcher Season 2, and more

Yes, there’s more to watch this weekend on streaming services than some Marvel superhero epic at the theaters. Here are some new streaming movies and shows you can catch this weekend. We have the long-awaited return of an adult fantasy series, a spin-off of a hit cable TV show, and lots more. The Witcher Season 2 (Netflix) Thanks in part to the current Covid-19 pandemic, it’s been a full two years since the first season of The Witcher debuted on Netflix.

Best Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus cases

As they have done for the past few years, Samsung once again released two versions of the latest addition to the flagship Galaxy S series. This time around however, both iterations feature dual curved edge displays, so the only real differentiating factor is the display size. The larger of the two, aptly called the Galaxy S8 Plus, features a beautiful 6.2-inch display that is packed into a body that feels far more compact than that size would suggest, and comes with the same gorgeous design, features, and capabilities as its smaller sibling.

OnePlus 5 battery life review

Every new smartphone brings with it the inevitable question: how good is the battery life? Smartphone technology has advanced rapidly over the past 10 years, but while there have been some improvements in battery technology, it definitely hasn’t kept up with other developments. Battery life can be the make or break feature for a smartphone, regardless of what else it has to offer. So how does the OnePlus 5 battery stack up?

The Surface Duo isn't Microsoft's first dual-screen foldable

David Imel / Android Authority The Surface Duo is quite possibly the most radical device that Microsoft has released in years, offering a folding design with two separate screens. Sure, it’s not as crazy as typical foldables with flexible screens, but Microsoft thinks this could be a paradigm shift in how we interact with our apps. As weird as a dual-screen foldable sounds, this isn’t actually the first time the Redmond company worked on the concept.

An inside look at Facebook's mobile app development process

Recently, I visited the Facebook Headquarters in London to learn about the process of developing and maintaining its mobile Facebook app. Much more goes on here than you probably realize: some of Facebook’s apps are handled here in their entirety, like WhatsApp for desktop and the business-oriented Workplace app. The offices are just what you’d expect from Facebook’s image, though perhaps not quite to The Social Network-levels of excess. This is a place where serious work gets done, but there’s a trendy, quirky, and relaxed atmosphere nonetheless.

Google Pixel flagships lack 4K/60fps capabilities, but that could change soon

Google’s recent Pixel flagship phones sport chipsets capable of 4K recording at 60fps, but we haven’t seen the search giant actually implement this video option. Fortunately, it looks like the company is working on a solution. XDA-Developers obtained the Google Camera 7.4 APK from a Pixel 4a, and conducted a teardown of the app package. The teardown reveals references to 4K video recording at 60fps. Now, this doesn’t mean that the Google Pixel 4a will offer 4K/60fps, as the Snapdragon 730 processor rumored to appear in the new budget Pixel tops out at 4K/30fps.

Pixel 2 portrait mode: how does it compare to other phones?

The Google Pixel 2 is well known for its great camera; a great camera made even better by machine learning and algorithmic processing. Whenever a picture is taken, Google’s massive stash of photo data helps it figure out the most pleasing way to process the picture. This results in some really sharp images with plenty of contrast and accurate colors (despite skewing toward more saturated skin tones). The front-facing camera gets this treatment as well, which is a big deal for users who love taking selfies.
