With each new smartphone cycle comes one certainty — a new round of processors, each promising faster performance and better graphics than ever before. While processors from Qualcomm, Samsung, and Huawei power most of the smartphones on the market, one company’s SoCs are often adopted by most OEMs.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon range has become synonymous with powering almost all smartphones on the market, while Exynos and Kirin processors are primarily used in Samsung and Huawei smartphones.
Another year, time for another flagship-grade Snapdragon mobile platform, although the Groundhog Day vibes are a little more poignant this year. Despite the new name, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the ninth major annual smartphone platform release in the flagship Snapdragon series. It’s also the 18th model in the 8-series, once you total up all the Plus and other variants. Just to make things more confusing, Qualcomm has also decided to drop numbering from its Adreno GPU, Hexagon DSP, and other assorted parts within the chip.
From relatively poor network coverage to a failed 4G initiative, Sprint experienced several significant missteps throughout the last 10 years. It is that former misstep that got BTIG analyst Walt Piecyk’s attention since he published a presentation slide on Twitter that stands as a microcosm for Sprint’s poor fortunes.
According to the alleged slide, Sprint’s LTE network coverage pales in comparison to Verizon’s, AT&T’s, and T-Mobile’s. It even pales in comparison to the carrier’s general coverage map, which covers most of the U.

It has a flagship chipset in the Snapdragon 888.

Xiaomi unveiled its Mi Box 4 and Mi Box 4c set-top boxes earlier today. Using MIUI TV on top of Android Marshmallow, the devices use AI to make movie suggestions. They will be available starting February 1 in China for less than the full price video game. Set-top boxes might not make as many waves as they did a few years back, but Xiaomi is giving the market another crack with the Mi Box 4 and Mi Box 4c.
“Android 8.0 Oreo update” and “system enhancements” were the only noted additions, however, we’ve already outlined what you can enjoy with Oreo in our review of the platform. So far, the app works just as expected in our testing, though we haven’t thrown anything too crazy at it. It offers several ways to solve math equations for you, including taking a photo of a math problem, typing it out, or even hand drawing it on the screen.
Audiophiles have rightly been sceptical of Bluetooth audio implementations in the past, with slow data transfer speeds and connection drops falling short of the quality offered by high-end wired solutions. Bluetooth technology has improved over recent years though, with the introduction of audio codecs designed specifically to push quality closer and closer to lossless.

From an email obtained by Business Insider, it’s alleged that the time-honored tradition of launching a Google April Fools’ Day joke won’t happen this year.
The email states that, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it would be in poor taste to have the usual jokey and sometimes-outrageous prank event. Google has canceled its primary prank for 2020, but since the company is so large, the email is encouraging divisions to cancel any of their own smaller Google April Fools’ events they may have had planned.
