Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA now available for the Nexus 4

When Google announced Android 5.1 Lollipop last month, the new version of Android quickly began rolling out to multiple Nexus family devices. There are still a few Nexus handsets that have yet to see the update, but today we can check one more off the list – the Nexus 4. The OTA, which is available now, weighs in at only 174MB and will bring your device from build number LRX22C to LMY47O. Android 5.1 is mostly a bug fix update, removing most of the annoying inconsistencies Android 5.

Why I chose a projector over a smart display or tablet

Rita El Khoury / Android Authority I have a rule in my home: The TV is for the living room. I don’t like seeing massive idle black screens in every room, and I certainly don’t like to have any distractions in the bedroom. But there are rare instances where I’m too exhausted or too busy, and I wish I could watch my favorite shows or teams while doing the dishes or before collapsing asleep.

Google Playground and AR Stickers already sunsetting

TL;DR Google isn’t supporting its Google Playground and AR Stickers apps on the Pixel 4a or future phones. It wants to focus on augmented reality for a “much wider audience.” Don’t get too attached to Google’s Playground app or AR Stickers — they won’t carry over if you’re buying a new Pixel phone. Google has confirmed to Android Police that it won’t support Playground or AR Stickers (and thus Playmoji) on the Pixel 4a and beyond.

Pocket Edition might launch on Android on Feb. 9 (Update)

Update #2 (1/29/18): Apple’s iTunes page for Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition now shows that the game is likely to launch for that platform on Feb. 9. It stands to reason that the Android version will likely be made available worldwide on that same day. Update #1 (11/8/17): It looks like our long wait for Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is coming to a close. Square Enix has officially put a listing up for the game on the Google Play Store where you can pre-register to receive a notification when the game goes live and check out the description of the game.

T-Mobile Essentials plan is cheaper than the One plans, but not worth it

TL;DR The new T-Mobile Essentials plan offers a “just the basics” service for $60 per month. However, unlike the T-Mobile One plans, taxes and fees are not included with that $60 price. With that in mind, it’s hard to recommend Essentials when for a few bucks more you can get T-Mobile One. The plan will cost $60 for one line, $30 for the second line, and $15 for each of the next lines (up to six lines total).

Right now, there aren’t too many pure next-gen releases, but there are a lot of cross-gen games that automatically upgrade whenever you pick up the new consoles.
