USB-IF announces certification program for USB Type-C chargers

A USB Charger is a funny thing. You have about 10 of them in a drawer at home, but maybe only one of them really charges your device properly. And chances are, that particular one is at the back of the sofa or under your bed, never to be seen again. Since USB Type-C charging has been implemented on the latest phones and devices, the problem has got even worse. Different chargers operate at different voltages and offer different wattage.

Very dangerous Android Trojan 'GriftHorse' discovered

That “prize” is a recurring subscription to a useless service. We have a list of known infected apps. If you have any of them, you should uninstall them as soon as possible. A new Android Trojan known as “GriftHorse” did just that (via Zimperium).

Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) gains sleep stages and Sleep Sensing pricing

The Calm app is also coming to the smart display in December. Sleep Sensing on the Nest Hub will become part of Fitbit Premium in 2023, which costs $9.99/month. When we reviewed the Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) in March 2021, we were impressed with most of the standard smart display aspects of the device.

Xiaomi will launch the Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra next week

The launch date and time coincides with a global launch event, suggesting these phones will be global releases. Xiaomi first launched the Mi 11 in December, with a global launch following soon after. We previously heard about a Mi 11 Pro and we already knew that the Mi 11 Ultra was on the way thanks to a leaked hands-on video.

Galaxy Note 10 series starting to receive One UI 4 beta

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus TL;DR The One UI 4 beta program is happening now for the Galaxy Note 10 series So far, it has rolled out in Samsung’s native Korea. It should come to other countries soon. The Galaxy Note 10 series should see stable Android 12 sometime in January 2022. So far, the program is active in South Korea, Samsung’s home turf. If things go as usual, it should start up in other countries over the next few weeks or even the next few days, if we’re lucky.

Huawei Watch Fit packs almost 100 sports modes for under $150

Update: August 31, 2020 (7:30 AM ET): The Huawei Watch Fit is now official. Featuring a 1.64-inch rectangular display, running Lite OS, and powered by the Kirin A1 chipset, the fitness wearable is good for a week of “heavy usage” according to Huawei. It also features GPS tracking, but when in use battery life is only good for 12 hours. Huawei does guarantee the device can track 96 workouts, namely “11 professional sport modes including running, swimming and cycling” and “85 custom workout modes.

Nubia Red Magic 2 teased with Snapdragon 845, 10GB RAM, 4D gaming

TL;DR Nubia has teased its upcoming gaming phone, the Red Magic 2, on Weibo. The handset will feature a Snapdragon 845 chip, 10GB of RAM, 3D surround sound and 4D feedback. It’s set to launch on October 31. We’ve entered the age of the gaming smartphone and new devices are dropping steadily. The Razer Phone 2 and Xiaomi Black Shark Helo have arrived this month already, and now its ZTE sub-brand Nubia’s turn with a sequel to its Red Magic from earlier this year.
