These are the first things you change on a new phone

Getting a new smartphone is a fun experience, as you unbox the device and play around with your shiny new toy. The setup process involves some work though, as you add a Wi-Fi connection, log in to your relevant accounts, install the desired apps, tweak sound profiles accordingly, add Bluetooth devices, and more. Once the setup process is completed and you’ve tweaked the expected settings, we wanted to know what was the first thing you changed on your phone otherwise.

Energizer P18K Pop is an Indiegogo disaster, misses crowdfunding target

TL;DR The Energizer P18K Pop, offering an 18,000mAh battery, has fallen short of its Indiegogo goal. Avenir Telecom’s smartphone only managed to hit roughly one percent of its target. It might be the thickest smartphone we’ve ever seen due to the massive battery. The Energizer P18K Pop caught our eye at MWC 2019, owing to its gigantic battery and comical proportions. Unfortunately, the phone’s IndieGogo campaign failed by a massive margin.

How to uninstall apps on the Galaxy S4

Galaxy S4 apps, how do I uninstall thee? Let me count the ways. Android is an app-driven platform. Everything that you can do on your Galaxy S4 you can achieve by running apps. Some apps (especially system apps) come with your phone straight from the factory, others you install from sources such as the Google Play Store. There’s not much that you can do to remove preinstalled system apps, but — just in case you haven’t gotten round to actually doing it first time — you can actually uninstall user apps and recover storage space.

How to use external libraries in Android Studio

One of the most important lessons I ever learned as a developer, although it took some time to sink in, was “don’t reinvent the wheel.” Understanding how to use libraries in Android Studio is a big part of that. In other words: if you need to perform a common task, you probably don’t need to write the code yourself. It might feel like “cheating” to use someone else’s code to resize a bitmap or modify a string but, in truth, it’s just good sense.

Oppo announces ColorOS 6 with an app drawer and more

TL;DR Oppo’s ColorOS 6 is the latest version of the company’s custom Android skin. ColorOS 6 takes better advantage of tall displays, includes performance-enhancing features, and a fresh paint job. According to Oppo, the ColorOS 6 rollout is from April through September. Starting with the looks, ColorOS 6 opts for “border-less” symmetry that’s based on invisible lines and grids. That means stock apps now offer a proper full-screen experience with cleaner borders and other UI elements.

Suicide Squad is now a free Android game

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have heard a thing or two about Jared Leto and his role as the Joker in the upcoming movie, Suicide Squad. It’s arguably one of the most anticipated films of this summer, featuring Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and many more of your favorite actors and actresses. However, the film won’t be the only DC Comics adaption that’s coming this summer from Warner Bros.

This is the average 2018 Android flagship smartphone

For Android Authority‘s Best of Android 2018 awards, we put more than 30 of the year’s flagships through their paces to chose winners across ten categories. Through this endeavor, we discovered which flagship had the best overall performance, which had the best cameras, and the overall smartphone of the year. This research not only revealed the top performers, though — we were also to discern the worst, and everything in between. As we approach the end of the year, we thought we’d take one last look at this information to explore what the average 2018 flagship looked like.

Extra scratch for extra flash

Razer Razer Kraken UltimateThe Razer Kraken Ultimate is the most full-featured Kraken model yet, but all of its substantive features are offered by cheaper models in the line. Buy this one if you need to match the LEDs of your setup, but otherwise think twice. Long before the Razer phone was twinkle in anyone’s eye, the company was thoroughly entrenched in the gaming peripheral market. Indeed, if any brand springs to mind when you think of something like a gaming headset, it’s probably Razer.

Nokia 5.1 Plus review: The new budget superstar

HMD Global Nokia 5.1 Plus The Nokia 5.1 Plus is a well-rounded budget smartphone with good balance of performance, camera, and battery life -- all packed in an upmarket chic-looking chassis. Table of contents With the Nokia 6.1 Plus, HMD Global finally offered a well-rounded mid-range smartphone where, unlike the company’s 2017 portfolio, the specifications sheet didn’t look dated and the pricing didn’t evoke, to put it mildly, a mixed reaction.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Review

It seems the companies have figured it out – smaller form factors aren’t a fringe product but are in very real demand. But “mini” versions of flagships tend to lose some of what make their bigger siblings appealing in the first place, unfortunately. Sony, though, appears ever aspirational in its quest for greater consumer loyalty and market share, and wanted to buck that trend with a “compact” offering that literally just shrinks down their best device.
