Visible mobile service is changing this satellite internet user's life

According to the FCC, nearly 19 million Americans lack access to fixed high-speed broadband. Not surprisingly, the majority (14.5 million) live in rural areas. Being without reliable internet access sucks. I know because I live in the middle of the woods in rural Missouri, where my only real option is satellite. Fixed wireless internet isn’t an option and there aren’t any wired services other than dial-up. Satellite internet is an awful experience I hope you never have to go through.

Your Google Home can now act as an intercom system

One of the coolest features announced at Google’s October 4 event was the ability to broadcast with your Google Home. With this feature, you should be able to use a Google Home or Assistant on your phone to broadcast a message to the other Google Homes in your household. This could be helpful, for example, if you’re cooking in the kitchen and want to call everyone to the table. We’ve been patiently waiting for Google to roll this feature out and it looks like it now has.

AllCast Receiver for Chrome lets you stream media to Chrome

ClockwordMod’s Koushik Dutta has taken streaming to the next level with AllCast. It has been associated to the popular Chromecast dongle because both became popular at around the same time, but there is much more to AllCast than just Cast support. This is the epitome of local streaming services. AllCast supports streaming to other smart TV devices, consoles, Blu-ray players and more. In fact, they recently added support for streaming to any other Android device, and today Koushik Dutta is taking on another platform by securing its presence in Chrome for desktop (on any device that can support full Chrome).

Apple MacBook Pro notch: Was it really necessary?

Rejoice! The MacBook Pro is back. After a long run of terrible updates, Apple has finally made an iteration worthy of the “Pro” tag. There is so much to like here. Two sizes, crazy powerful silicon with every configuration available across both sizes, necessary ports brought back, and the screens made even better. A dream machine for professions, except that it comes with an asterisk — or more precisely, a notch.

Augmented reality app called Hex3 AppTag brings laser tag to Android

Laser tag is a lot of fun. For many of us, it was a staple of childhood fun. For many more of us, it remains a staple of adult fun. There is nothing quite like putting on that vest and stepping into the area to shoot some people with some laser beams. It is now possible to get that kind of action without having to go to a laser tag place or buy the equipment yourself.

Best OnePlus 5 cases - protecting your new flagship killer

OnePlus’ latest flagship was one of the most highly-anticipated smartphones of the year. The company has managed to deliver with the OnePlus 5. The latest device brings with it a sleeker design and a new dual camera setup, along with the latest and greatest in hardware and a price point that still undercuts the competition by a fair margin. It would be a shame to dent or damage your brand new smartphone, and an extra layer of protection to keep your device safe from accidental bumps and drops is never a bad idea.

Can either replace your laptop?

Ryan Haines / Android Authority Apple launched its iPad family to new heights back in 2015 with the advent of the iPad Pro. It added a keyboard and stylus to the large 12.9-inch display, and it followed up with a smaller version. The iPad Pro 9.7 took over where the iPad Air 2 left off and aimed squarely at Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4. Let’s put the two against each other and see which “pro” tablet is worth your money.

CuBox-i review - a mini PC for Linux, Android and OpenELEC

[bcPortal width=”800″ height=”450″ videoid=”4057138898001″ publisherid=”3674338003001″ playerid=”3674338273001″ autostart=”false”] The CuBox-i is certainly an interesting mini PC. It offers a lot of flexibility since its support for Android and Linux is excellent, and it excels at running Kodi. One of the most important commercial uses of a Single Board Computer (SBC) is as a prototyping and rapid development platform. Recently I reviewed the HummingBoard-i2eX, a SBC from SolidRun that is compatible with Android and Linux.

Google Photos finally has search filters

Jimmy Westenberg / Android Authority TL;DR Google Photos is adding search filter buttons that help you quickly find pictures and video. You can filter your library by image type and even the presence of other people. It appears to be rolling out as a server-side update. Google Photos has powerful search features built-in, but discovering them hasn’t been easy when you’ve frequently had to type in the right phrases to find the snapshots you’re looking for.

Here's how an artist fooled Google Maps into creating virtual traffic jams

Update, February 4, 2020 (11:50 AM ET): Yesterday, we saw a statement from Google regarding the Google Maps “hack” detailed in the original article below. Now, we also have some more clarity on how the artist performed the “hack” in question. In an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine (via 9to5Google), artist Simon Weckert says that each of the 99 smartphones in the wagon had their own connected SIM card and each one was actively using Maps for navigation.
