Hackers can take over out-of-date Samsung phones

Security firm Kryptowire is warning a wide range of Samsung devices are vulnerable to a major security flaw that allows hackers to take over a device. Kryptowire makes Mobile Application Security Testing (MAST), a tool that scans for vulnerabilities, as well as security and privacy issues. According to the company, it discovered a vulnerability (CVE-2022-22292) that could allow a hacker to take a range of actions, including making phone calls, installing/uninstalling apps, weakening HTTPS security by installing unverified certificates, running apps in the background, and even factory resetting a device.

Here's how often you upgrade to a new TV

Dhruv Bhutani / Android Authority One of the most popular categories on Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the TV. It’s not uncommon to see loads of TV brands offering big price cuts on everything from their basic models all the way to even 8K sets. Then again, the feeling I got in the Android Authority Slack channel was that people don’t upgrade to a new TV very often at all.

Here's how to reset Adaptive Brightness in Android Pie

Google has quietly updated its Device Health Services app, bringing the ability to change your Adaptive Brightness settings back to factory defaults. We don’t blame you if you missed the addition, but here’s how to reset Adaptive Brightness. The version 1.6 update brings the change, according to 9to5Google, but the process of resetting the option is a strange one. You’ll need to visit the app’s info page in settings, then tap storage > clear storage > reset adaptive brightness.

How to look up charge cycles on any MacBook

Charge cycles on a MacBook is an important metric. It’s similar in utility to photographers knowing how many photos their cameras have taken. You can see how much use a MacBook has endured. Thus, you can purchase one with a good cycle count (if buying used) and ensure that you’re good to go for years. Alternatively, you can see how your current MacBook is doing and see if the cycle count could be contributing to battery decline.

Xiaomi‘s Pocophone F1 is finally official, offering a ton of power in a more affordable package. Today’s flagships push the limit in other ways too, so how does the new device stack up? The Chinese brand is pushing power as a major selling point for the Pocophone F1, and they aren’t lying. You’re getting Qualcomm’s latest flagship silicon, the Snapdragon 845, along with 6GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage in the base model.

LG Ice Cream Smart clamshell smartphone debuts in Korea

On Sunday, LG announced another clamshell form smartphone, the Ice Cream Smart, which is scheduled to debut in Korea this week. A few months ago, LG launched a similar handset called the Wine Smart, a throwback to some of the company’s old phone designs. It seems that the flip-phone look is making a bit of a resurgence in South Korea. The Ice Cream Smart comes equipped with a 3.50-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) display, an unspecified 1.

Minor upgrades, but still the best smartwatch

Apple Watch Series 7The Apple Watch Series 7 is a no-nonsense, premium smartwatch. Its display is bigger, and it charges faster than before. However, most of the other upgrades are in watchOS 8 — not the Series 7 itself. You should hold onto your current Apple Watch if it works well and hold out for a true upgrade. However, if you need a new smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 7 is, yet again, the best one you can buy.
