15 best Android games released in 2020

Android gaming has come a long way in the past few years. Long gone are the days of simple arcade games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. Android games are larger and more engaging than ever before. This year was no exception. We saw some excellent new releases across a number of genres. Of course, there were some games that rose above the rest. Here are the best Android games from the year 2020.

Alexagate is a gloriously unnecessary tool to stop Amazon Echo from listening

TL;DR Mschf has released an Alexagate device that uses ultrasonic sound to block Amazon Echo microphones. It appears to work, but it’s utterly unnecessary — and raises questions about why you have a speaker. Geekologie reports that the inventors at Mschf have released Alexagate, a $99 add-on device that jams the microphones on most Echo speakers. Place it atop your Echo and it uses seven ultrasonic speakers to neutralize the mics.

Amazon's Fire TV products now have a pretty impressive update policy

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Amazon has announced an overhauled security update policy for its Fire TV-enabled gadgets. This applies to Fire TV streaming devices, soundbars, and TVs. We’ve seen several major brands offer a longer commitment to updates in the last 18 months or so, ranging from Samsung and OnePlus to Xiaomi and Oppo. Now, it turns out that Amazon is joining the party as well — but not for tablets.

An easy choice for most people

Acer Chromebook Spin 311The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is a fine little machine. It's not a top performer, but it's not setting out to be. It delivers on its promise of solid everyday performance and killer battery life. If you need something simple to use around the house or give the kids, the Spin 311 makes a lot of sense. The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is a minimalist machine meant for students and those with lightweight, everyday computing needs.

Another (yes, another) Google Pixel Watch rumor is here

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority TL;DR A new report claims Google is developing an in-house, Google-branded smartwatch, which could debut next year. The smartwatch would offer basic fitness tracking and day-long battery life and would compete with the Apple Watch. The Google watch is not to be confused with Fitbit’s Wear OS smartwatch, which was teased at Google I/O 2021. It’s almost laughable how many Google Pixel Watch rumors there’ve been over the years.

Compact camera vs smartphone shootout: It's not even close

Point-and-shoot camera sales have seen a significant decline worldwide according to many studies. With smartphone cameras improving exponentially in the past few years, it raises the question: Are point-and-shoot cameras actually worth it anymore, or should you just buy a top camera phone? We decided to put it to the test with a compact camera vs smartphone shootout. We pitched a high-end compact camera (the $600 Sony RX100 IV) against a couple of the top camera phones of 2019 (the Google Pixel 4 and Huawei P30 Pro).

DJI Osmo Mobile 2 review: get your smooth on

DJI Osmo Mobile 2 The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is a no-brainer for most creatives - it adds a portrait mode for even better social media content but, most importantly, costs way less than its predecessor and its competition. You just have to get past the loading screen on the app first... DJI is most recognizable for its drones, but their aerial devices make use of a very important aspect of photo and video — stabilization.

Update, October 8, 2019 (3:15AM ET): We’ve been waiting for the Colorize feature to land in Google Photos for over a year now, promising to bring AI-generated color to monochrome pictures. Thankfully, it looks like we’re a step closer to the feature rolling out for all users. 9to5Google obtained version 4.26 of the Google Photos app and managed to enable a beta version of the Colorize feature. The outlet noted that the Colorize option will appear after the Original and Auto filter options when editing snaps, complete with a beta tag.

Google Pixel 3 XL redux: It hasn't aged well...

Google’s recent Pixel 4 release has divided the tech community thanks to the company’s controversial decisions. The device’s lack of an ultra-wide camera, the diminutive battery size, and the relatively high price have all made for a bumpy launch. Although, saying that, whose launch has been watertight this year? That got me thinking — how’s the Pixel 4’s predecessor doing after 12 months? Is the Pixel 3 XL still worth buying, or should you instead opt for one of the many great-value smartphones on the market today?
