SIM cards have been around for just over 30 years at this point. While they’ve definitely become smaller over the years, the basic premise has stayed the same: insert the physical card into your phone to get connected. Switching phones? Just swap the SIM card. Convenient as this process is, though, the cellular industry has been pushing for a new standard that could eventually make physical SIM cards completely obsolete.

Having to send a broken phone for repair is already a stressful experience. You find yourself without your primary means of communication, you’re hoping it’ll be quickly fixed without any blunders or extra costs, and you’re relying on a shipping carrier to not lose it or delay its delivery. But there’s also the slightly “icky” feeling of knowing one of your most private possessions is now in the hands of someone else.
Loads of phones come with dual cameras these days. There are also plenty of budget-friendly dual-camera handsets available, so you can capture those fancy bokeh images without breaking the bank.
Even though more phones are now adding more than two shooters to the back, the dual camera phones can still take excellent photos, thanks in part to better hardware and more advanced software features. If you’re in the market for a phone with a dual-camera setup, keep reading.
Thanks to Matt Miller at ZDNet’s The Mobile Gadgeteer, I now know how to rename a folder on the Android desktop. It isn’t rocket science, and I’m sure plenty of you out there stumbled upon it on your own. But since it’s not obvious, I thought it might be worthwhile to share how it works – and what folders are good for in the first place. For starters, create a folder on one of the three desktop panels by long pressing somewhere on the screen and selecting Folder from the Shortcut menu.
If you follow tech news you may have heard of Foxconn, if you haven’t then you have certainly heard of some of the products it manufactures: iPad, iPhone, Kindle, PlayStation, Xbox and so on! The keyword here is manufacture. Foxconn is a Taiwanese contract manufacturer that assembles products for the likes of Apple, Blackberry and Microsoft. Nokia also recently revealed that it will be releasing a new tablet. But it won’t be made by Nokia, instead the industrial design, the brand, and the IP will be licensed to Foxconn on a royalty basis.

TL;DR
Starting in November, Google will alter the system behind Play Store ratings for apps and games. Ratings will be localized, causing some apps to have different ratings for people in different areas of the world. Next year, ratings will become even more specific by taking device form factors into account. Apps and games on the Google Play Store have historically had aggregated review scores.
Google just announced that the company’s Translate app is getting a killer new feature: real-time transcription. This new functionality is rolling out over the next few days, and it should be available to all Android users by the end of the week. At launch, it will support English, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai.
Once your Google Translate app receives the update, there will be a new voice transcription option beneath the text entry box, as pictured below.
With the release of EA’s Real Racing 3, we’re interested to see where Gameloft will take its Asphalt series next. We heard back in January that it’s prepping the sequel to the popular racing game franchise, which apparently will be titled Asphalt 8: Infinity, but we believe it’s still in an early development stages.
The next best thing is to expect an update to Asphalt 7: Heat, which the gaming company has obliged.
With Samsung still holding on to its place at the very top of the world smartphone market, there is no shortage of China-made clones of its most popular handsets — namely, the Galaxy S3 and its current flaship, the Galaxy S4. Unlike the imitation phones of many years ago, the ones that you can purchase now look very similar to the models that they are based on. And not only that, but in some cases, clones can even surpass the original in terms of features (which is quite confusing).
