Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 receives unofficial KitKat update

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a true Android classic, but unfortunately the phone isn’t receiving as much love from Samsung in its autumn years. The Korean E210S version of the Galaxy S3 has recently received its Android 4.4.4 upgrade, whilst the international i9300 variant has been left without an update. Samsung had been toying with the idea of an official KitKat update for the i9300 handset, but has fallen short of delivering. The reason for the update split is apparently down to hardware limitations.

Samsung Galaxy S8 just received its last update four years after its launch

TL;DR Samsung will no longer issue updates to the Galaxy S8. Up until this point, the 2017 flagship received quarterly updates from the company. Galaxy S8 Active and S8 Lite users will continue to receive updates. The Samsung Galaxy S8 launched back in 2017. It was the flagship that would inform the company’s design language and philosophy for years to come. Until now, Samsung continued to issue reasonably regular updates to the device, keeping it relevant for legacy users.

The best workout games and fitness games for Android

It’s important to work out. It helps you maintain good health, keeps the pounds off, and makes you feel good. However, working out can also be boring. You’re basically doing something over and over again for a long time for benefits you might not see for weeks. Many people pass the time with things like music, podcasts, or working out with other people. Some may need motivation with a little more engagement.

Verizon's new rewards program comes with a big catch

Verizon has launched a new rewards program called Verizon Up that rewards its customers with a credit for every $300 they spend on their bill. These credits can then be redeemed towards a variety of rewards as a way of giving something back to customers. The various rewards could include discounts towards your next device purchase, discounts on accessories, or partner rewards. There are also some additional offerings that operate on a first-come, first-served basis such as ticket opportunities.

What happened to the Android One program?

Dhruv Bhutani / Android Authority Ample competition has ensured that mid-range smartphones are doing better than ever now, and there’s no dearth of brands aiming to make the flagship experience more affordable for everyone. However, it wasn’t all that long ago that the disparity in the user experience between a budget and a high-end phone was a lot more significant. The first few generations of budget smartphones were particularly bad, owing to their underpowered processors and bloated software

What to watch between seasons of the HBO Max series

After a successful third season at its new home on HBO Max, Titans is due for a fourth season, though you may have to wait a while for it. In the meantime, what are some shows like Titans to keep you entertained? Titans follows Dick Grayson, known to most as Robin, and his team of crime-fighting superheroes the Titans, loosely based on DC Comics’ Teen Titans. Having previously disbanded, the Titans are making another go of the team life in this live-action superhero series originally produced for the now-defunct DC Universe streaming service.

Yahoo Squirrel is yet another messaging app on the Play Store

I don’t know what’s more surprising: the fact that Yahoo is still a thing under Verizon ownership, or that it has decided to launch an instant messaging app. Squirrel, spotted by Android Police, is an invite-only group chat app that allows you to create rooms for people or topics. On paper, it sounds like the group functionality in any other IM app, down to the ability to mute rowdy rooms. However, the execution seems more in line with workplace app Slack‘s channels, letting you create groups for a select subset of the main group and allowing you to send a “blast” message for important messages.

Android Instant apps - what do they mean for users and developers?

Do you really need to download an app to own it? I’m not being philosophical here (do we truly own anything?) but when you consider how quickly and easily you can download and install something like a flashlight app, it makes you wonder what the advantage to keeping it on your device actually is. Unless you work down a mine, it’s unlikely you’ll need those special use case apps all that often; so as long as you’re able to access an app quickly when you need it most, what benefit is there to having it take up space the rest of the time?

Apple vs Android RAM management: Who does it better?

The amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) your handset needs for smooth multitasking is a cloudy subject, especially as Apple and Android phones have different amounts. Smartphones rely on RAM to hold the operating system (like Android and iOS), and to run apps and the data for those apps, as well as some caching and buffering data. The RAM needs to be organized and managed so that the apps can run smoothly.
