How to share Amazon Prime with family

From Prime Delivery and Prime Video to Prime Music and exclusive deals, getting an Amazon Prime membership makes sense for the avid Amazon shopper. However, it’s not easy to plunk down $119 each year for it. It’s even harder when you have a family full of kids and a significant other who also shop on Amazon.

Thankfully, there’s a way for your family to experience the benefits of Amazon Prime without having each person pay $119 every year. Amazon doesn’t make it easy to do so, but that’s what we’re for.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to share Amazon Prime with family.

What to know before you start

Somewhat buried in your account settings, Amazon Household lets you share select Prime benefits with one other adult at least 18 years old, two teenagers 13 to 17 years old, and a child 12 years old and under.

Most of your Prime benefits extend to the second adult, with the benefits including:

  • Prime Shipping
  • Prime Now
  • AmazonFresh (if you sign up)
  • Prime Video
  • Prime Reading
  • Amazon Photos
  • Amazon First Reads
  • Twitch Prime
  • Audible Channels
  • Up to 20 percent off diapers, baby food, and more, and 15 percent off baby registry

However, the second adult doesn’t get access to Prime Music, exclusive promotions on certain games available for pre-order, and purchased video subscriptions.

Teenagers are more limited on what Prime benefits they get. Here’s what they get:

  • Prime Shipping
  • Amazon Elements for Prime
  • Prime Video
  • Twitch Prime

  • Amazon Photos

Finally, child profiles don’t get any Prime benefits. Instead, children get FreeTime and FreeTime Unlimited on Fire tablets, Fire TV, Kindle devices, and Android devices. FreeTime lets you pay a monthly fee for access to thousands of child-friendly content. It also includes parental controls to keep tabs on how long your children use their devices.

How to share Amazon Prime with family on Android

  • Open the Amazon app.
  • Tap the hamburger icon on the top left.
  • Tap Your Account.
  • In the Account settings section, scroll down and tap Manage your household.
  • Tap Manage Your Household Members.
  • You can now add a second adult, two teenagers, and a child.

  • Navigate to Amazon’s homepage.
  • Hover over the Accounts & Lists option near the search bar.
  • Under the Your Account column, click Your Account.
  • In the Shopping programs and rentals section, click Amazon Household.
  • You can now add a second adult, two teenagers, and a child.
