Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds set to launch on June 8

TL;DR

  • Sony has set a launch date for the WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds.
  • The live virtual launch event will take place on June 8.
  • The specs, features, and design of the Sony WF-1000XM4 have already leaked extensively.

After weeks of rumors and leaks, we finally have a launch date for the Sony WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds. Sony posted a YouTube livestream link (see below) announcing that the “truly silent” “tailored 4 you” buds will go official on June 9  at 1 AM Japan time (12 PM ET on June 8).

The new Sony WF-1000XM4 will be more compact compared to the existing WF-1000XM3. We saw several design leaks showing off the earbuds in two colorways — black with copper accents and white with gold accents. The redesign could allow the WF-1000XM4 to sit more flush with the ears this time around.

Specs and features of the true wireless pair were also recently confirmed thanks to a leaked promotional video. In addition to improved noise-cancelling, the Sony WF-10000XM4 will also carry over some features like Speak-To-Chat and Adaptive Sound Control from the Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headset.

Battery life is also expected to be pretty good. The buds could allow for 24 hours of playback with ANC turned on and 36 hours without it.

A recent leak suggested that with all these upgrades, the Sony WF-1000XM4 could be an expensive affair. A retail listing for the earbuds quoted a price of €279.90, or about $340. That’s way more than the previous model of the true wireless earbuds that launched for $230.

Nevertheless, we’ll get all these details and more at Sony’s launch event so let’s wait and watch what’s in store.
